Student Affairs- Leadership Studies Minor Internship 

A core component of the Leadership Studies Minor is that all students participate in at least one 30+ positional leadership practicum course with 30+ hours of leadership activities paired with an additional 30 hours of leadership and setting-specific instruction and coaching. My coached leadership experience was to serve as a intern in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.  As a intern, I collaborated with administration and the leadership studies advisory board to challenge existing processes, and to enhance the overall quality of education deliver through the leadership studies minor. My impact includes, but is not limited to, re-desiging and updating content displayed on the leadership studies website, creating an exemplar portfolio template for graduating seniors to reference upon applying for graduation, individualizing and updating course descriptions for all ELPS 350 courses, and adjusting content to increase comprehension on the ELPS 451 canvas site.

Serving as the leadership studies minor intern allowed me to experience a different perspective behind the process of delivering educational leadership content to students. I feel I gained a deeper understanding of the dynamic encompassed within a student affairs office, and gained technical competence using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Canvas. The transition from student to intern allowed me to place leadership theories into practice, and to discuss, plan, and problem solve with current student using in depth content. Overall, I believe the internship afforded me with the ability to conceptualize and apply leadership practices in real life settings, and I am eager to continue building upon this ability well into my post-graduate career.
