We recognize that quality course design is instrumental toward supporting student success. That is, when an online learning environment is well designed, everyone achieves more, learns more, and is more equitably represented.

At the same time, we recognize that many faculty members are learning Canvas for the first time and many will be attempting to transfer skills from Blackboard to the new Learning Management System (LMS): Canvas. One of the reasons for the migration to Canvas, however, is that it is far more feature rich than Blackboard. Hence, while courses can be built on Canvas in parallel formats to Blackboard, such course design intrinsically falls short of realizing the potential that Canvas provides faculty to design more engaging, accessible courses.

Therefore, this course was designed to afford faculty and/or departments and/or colleges to support in designing effective and accessible online learning environments specifically using the principles of Universal Design for Learning and the features of Canvas.
